Session 8 Review
Congratulations! You just completed Session 8 of the Web Support Project for Dementia Caregivers! Session 8 focused on Caregiver Support. Let's review!
- You are not alone in your caregiving journey! There are both national and local support groups full of caregivers just like you! It may help to speak with people who can understand your everyday battles. You should consider joining a dementia/ Alzheimer's disease support group for caregivers.
- You don't HAVE to join a support group to have support. Consider enlisting family and friends to help out when needed!
- VA has a national caregiver support line and website available to caregivers of veterans. On the website you will find helpful education and review material. You should consider reviewing this information sometime.
- If family and friends aren't always available to help, you may consider a day program, hired help or respite care. These options may cost you, so speak with a VA social worker to learn more about what VA programs your loved one may qualify for.
- When your loved one enters the later stages of dementia, it may be most appropriate for him/her to enter a residential care facility. Take care when choosing the facility and review the residential care checklist.
